Freedom from Identity: Posted May 21
It has been brought to my attention that some think by “freedom from identity” I mean no allegiance to country, family, culture, or organization. That is not correct. A clearer expression might be “freedom from identity with conditioning.”
“Conditioning” means programming or limitation of awareness, emotions, or any aspect of the physiology.
“Identity with conditioning” is the source of narrow-mindedness, limited thinking, emotional imbalance, and disease. It is the result of samskaras or impressions that create distortion. So, please understand that when I have used the term “identity” as something to be overcome, I am referring to identity with conditioning.
Our Role: Posted May 12
A number of people have been asking questions that relate to our role in the greater scheme of things as contrasted to the role of other spiritual teachers. I thought you might enjoy reading Sanjay Rath’s perspective on a few of those questions.

1) "Why didn't Maharishi build any Temples?"
(Sanjay Rath) My answers are based on the chart of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (MMY) as well as what I thought was his mission.
MMY, or for that matter any being who incarnates on this planet, has an image. This is a 3D, physical image, which we see when light falls on his body and we retain this image in the mind even after he leaves this planet. All minds work on 3D images called "Aaroodha" which means “mounted” or “framed” like a picture. Here, the picture is a combination of the soul and the mind. Together they are called the spirit, which in jyotish is the chara ätmakäraka. We live with these image(s) that are created around our real selves and these images have various symbols, colors and other things attached to make the mounting/frame complete. In jyotish, we get to know all about this image and the symbols and mountings. The basic sign where the Aarodha falls is the determinant of what is good or not good for the image. To achieve one's mission, the image has to be protected, as it is a delicate picture frame.
MMY had the Aaroodha in the sign Libra. Think of Libra like a market place, humming with the humdrum of life with all sorts of people coming and going and selling wares. His mission was to help this market to maintain peace, but to continue its market work. So what did he need to do? He taught them how to take a small break and relax properly...this is dhyana the basic meditation...then he taught them to take longer breaks and relax even more so that they may concentrate better...this was dhaarana and then some of them were able to relax completely and got out of the market...this was samadhi. This is what he did.
Libra is a market, and a temple is definitely the most unwanted structure in a market as it causes disturbance to the spiritual energies that are invoked. The greatest temples are on mountaintops, in a distance from the city, in the quietness of the wilderness. Libra is the sign of debility of the Sun, which rules temples. So, if MMY built temples, his image would be destroyed. MMY was too evolved to [need to] know all this and went about his mission with the expertise that comes from years of spiritual practice in the Himalayas. On the other hand, he stuck to the directions in his chart perfectly.
Now look at the chart of Michael Mamas. The Aaroodha is in Leo meaning that this is the sign of the real wilderness where the sadhu and spiritual people are supposed to build their ashrams. The Sun ruling the sign indicates that the image is not complete without the temple as the Sun rules temples. Once the temple is built, the picture would be well mounted. The mission is to take the teachings to its correct conclusion, i.e., to establish places for worship, yajïa, and other things related to spiritual activity, in such places which must have a temple or worship place associated.
To prove my point, I give another example – Prabhupada of ISKCON [Hare Krishna Movement] had his Aaroodha in Aries...a FIRE sign, which is the sign of exaltation of the Sun indicating that he must build temples. This was predicted right when he was born and this is what he did to help mount/frame his picture correctly. MMY and Prabhupada had their Aaroodha in opposite signs – Aries (Prabhupada) and Libra (MMY) which are exaltation and debilitation signs of Sun showing why Prabhupada had to build temples and why MMY was not to do so.
Yet, what we need in the U.S. is not the exaltation or debilitation. These high points cannot be sustained all the time. What we need is “homecoming”. The Sun is happiest at its home in Leo which is also its palace and which is the Aaroodha of Michael Mamas. So, the U.S. needs a temple which balances spirituality and mundane life. Look at Prabhupada’s exalted Sun Aaroodha – people had to leave their home life and go to live in temples. Look at MMY’s debilitated Sun exalted Saturn, Aaroodha in Libra...people had to become recluses to achieve what he wanted. What the U.S. needs is a balance and not these extremes.
2) "Since Maharishi's movement is so large and so many are meditating together in Fairfield with many Pundits coming there, why would people go to Mount Soma where the group is smaller?"
(Sanjay Rath) Large or small is a function of time. Temples are not built just for large groups of people. They are built for students to benefit by getting their Yajïa and puja done and then the energy spreads and the entire locality benefits. They are places where the daily worship maintains a spiritual atmosphere, that governs a community, and where people live with dharma due to the spiritual energy and truth force from the temple. It is something called “bimba” in Sanskrit, meaning the Supreme Light—that which gives enlightenment. The bimba comes initially for short phases and then lingers as people meditate and pray and then it finally stays permanently.
The temple is being built so that people have the opportunity to have the bimba of Lord Shiva as Somanath, so that sins like lust, sexual excesses, etc., (read about Somanath) are forgiven and overcome, major curses are removed through grace, unsatisfied ancestors are pacified with simple water and food offerings, and evil energies are stopped before they even come close. Life becomes a lot smoother.

Sanjay’s essential point is that our mission is to take spiritual teaching to its correct conclusion. This is what Mount Soma is about.
The Alamo: Posted May 7
The main gate of the Alamo was centered in the south wall. According to vastu, this entry location is that of death. |
