  • The first blush of autumn is such a fine time of year. With holidays around the corner, the inclination to curl up under a blanket in front of the fireplace emerges. The bears prepare to hibernate as people are naturally inclined to rest into the sanctity of their own being. May you all enjoy the crunching of leaves beneath your feet and the sweet breezes of autumn caressing your face.

God Is Closer Than You Think - A New Article by Michael

Waking up a bit after midnight each morning, I feel pulled, as if I am being beckoned. As the sleep clears, the beckoning transforms into a yearning. Careful not to wake my wife or children, through the dark of night, I make my way to my meditation room. Closing my eyes, I settle into my Self. Yet, I cannot call it my self. I rest into the soul of God, all knowing and full, content. The call, the yearning is to merge with my God. The subtlest of shifts occurs as my Self transforms into God's Self. Existence is so exquisitely magical.

Image An Excerpt from Unconditioned Spirit by Michael Mamas

    From page 9.

Conditioning controls our lives. How you feel emotionally, what you think, how you think, your beliefs about the world-they are all colored by your conditioning. You receive impressions from childhood and throughout your life. Those impressions condition your heart and mind. Some ancient teachings refer to these impressions as samskaras.

Zen Buddhists aspire to a state of "no mind." What does that mean? Ancient Sanskrit texts define the mind as something created from conditioning. Impressions etched upon the awareness determine how we interface with the world. They color everything, including our mood. It even affects how you are receiving this information right now. Since we consider conditioning to be our truth, we often feel passionately about it. Our entire life becomes invested in our conditioning.

The state of "no mind" from Zen Buddhism is a state of unconditioned awareness.

Human beings live at the crest of the evolutionary process-capable of embodying the depth and breadth of life's mysteries. This is the meaning of the phrase: "to live in the image of God."
